Beyond the familiar symbols
The Ancient Egypt collection is intended to go beyond pyramids, pharaohs and famous objects. It can explore daily life, writing, craft, religion, burial, architecture, trade and the many people whose lives made up ancient Egyptian society.
Objects with context
Images and objects should be accompanied by useful information about date, material, place, purpose, provenance and the institution or source responsible for the surviving record whenever that information is available.
Evidence before spectacle
Ancient Egypt attracts myths and exaggerated claims. SAGE Museum aims to separate documented evidence from uncertainty, later interpretation and creative presentation so visitors can enjoy the mystery without confusing it with established history.
Growing exhibition
Additional rooms, objects, stories and educational paths will continue to be added as the exhibition develops.
SAGE Museum is being built as a living experience rather than a finished static website. We are continually researching, correcting, expanding and redesigning collections so returning visitors can discover something new. Some areas will grow quickly, others carefully over time. New exhibits, stories, artwork, reading material and interactive features are planned as the museum develops.
We are striving to give visitors an experience that is useful, beautiful, curious and worth returning to. Check back as the collection grows.
