A museum within the museum
Art & Visual Culture is being built as a place where visitors can move between periods, styles, makers and institutions without reducing art to a simple image gallery. The goal is to give the work context: who made it, where it came from, what it represented and why it matters.
Museum and open-access art
The collection can include responsibly sourced public-domain and open-access works from museums and archives. Source and rights information should remain connected to the work so visitors can understand where an image and its information originated.
Original SAGE work
This collection will also become a home for original BKS and SAGE artwork. Historical material and original contemporary work can live beside one another while remaining clearly identified.
Always evolving
New galleries, featured artists, visual themes and original collections will be added over time. We want this room to feel different when a returning visitor comes back months later.
SAGE Museum is being built as a living experience rather than a finished static website. We are continually researching, correcting, expanding and redesigning collections so returning visitors can discover something new. Some areas will grow quickly, others carefully over time. New exhibits, stories, artwork, reading material and interactive features are planned as the museum develops.
We are striving to give visitors an experience that is useful, beautiful, curious and worth returning to. Check back as the collection grows.
